Bossk!
Finally I hunted down the most awesomest bounty hunter in the galaxy! You heard me Boba Fett. The most awesomest, Bossksomest bounty hunter evah!
Until now I only had the vintage version. No other version in any line, not even Lego or Galactic Heroes. But it was worth it as my life is now complete. Totally fulfilled. Ah. Feels good. Feels Bossksome!

Say you were a Jedi and you could go anywhere in the galaxy to live in any culture you chose- which one would you go to? I'm thinking hanging out with the mon calamari and quarrens might be kind of cool. But Sharad Hett decided to go to Tatooine to live with the Tusken Raiders, and that's not a bad choice either.
So this guy was a character in a pretty cool arc of the Star Wars series that was launched when Episode I came out. Sharad dies but his son lives on and eventually becomes Darth Krayt. Anyways, for some reason Dark Horse never realized that red lightsabers were reserved for Sith lords, so lots of Jedis had redeyes. Which is cool because in Hett's case it wasn't clear at first if he was good or bad. He was good. And so was his son, until he became bad.

A new bounty hunter leaps from the CG Clone Wars series! Is he as iconic as Boba Fett or Bossk or 4-LOM? Not quite. But he's still pretty durn cool. Rootin tootin, maybe you could say since he has that spaghetti western look which is actually pretty appropriate given that Star Wars, at least the original movie, was as much a space western as anything else.
So, pretty fine looking figure, a little limited articulation wise but really, isn't the above pose all you need him to do?

Well these guys were originally just called General Grievous' bodyguards. Now they are Magnaguards. Either way they are kickass droids that almost kind of beat the General himself in cool-lookingness. I got two of them when Sith came out though I think there are more updated sculpts with better articulation and the Clone Wars version is supposedly pretty great though I never saw one.

SO here is Republic Commando Scorch. I guess he was the star of a Star Wars first person shooter that came out a few years ago. I don't play too much videogames but that one sounds fun.
So Scorchy is gone away, given to a young kid in the Maritimes who will hopefully treat him well. I never cared for the sculpt all that much, and though I dig his blue visor the rest of his color scheme is meh.
BUt this photo is not too bad eh?

Through the magic of photography it looks like I have two ARFers but really they are just one. I would have bought two if there were two, but there was only one and he was a little on the expensive side to boot. Comic shop rather than a chain store.
Is this the sharpest looking CG CW clone yet? I would say so. Great helmet, kind of mean looking (even if they are more nervous looking in the photos). Since I just got me Clone Wars DVD set the other day I haven't seen any episodes with him yet. I guess they drive AT-RTs. I drive a Saturn Ion but I would trade it for an RT and one of those helmets any day.

I got both of these guys from trades on the boards so I am not sure what they are really called- spacetrooper maybe but there is that new stormtrooper that is called that. Anyways, they started out as clones of one another but then I painted one up so they are different. My first time trying to paint a figure. Went alright, except I got paint everywhere, including on my pants an it didn't wash out.
Anyways, they have wings. So they can fly. Better than a Mando jetpack?

Some of the Clone Wars line of figures don't really fit in well with the other 3 1/4 figures, but lots of them do. Asajj is one. She looks great standing next to my Luminara from the other style of figures. If only she could hold her lightsaber worth a darn. It's actually two that fit together to form a double-bladed one like Darth Maul's. Cool.
Anyways this is the third Asajj I've featured here so what else is there to say? Two out of three Asajjs agree- holding lightsabers is hard work!

So this is pretty much the ultimate in Bobas. The UbaBoba. Just a great looking figure, accurate as far as I can tell, if you ignore the fact his rifle is all warped. Probably my fault anyways for leaving it like that.

Return of the Jedi had so many great aliens and Kenner cranked out some good ones- for the time anyways. One of my faves was this Gamorrean guard. I think I had two. This one I got last fall at a toy convention, it was $5 being incomplete and loose and not really mint. The battleax he has is borrowed from Gimli the Dwarf, who has a plethora of axes and was happy to lend one.
It would be nice to have a real gamorrean guarding my fridge and all my snacks, but then he would probably just eat them all himself.

I like the ROTS clones a lot. Maybe even better than Stormtroopers. They're just a little more streamlined and symmetrical. Well, that might be blasphemy to some. I really like the grey on the trooper in the foreground, who appeared for a second or two in Sith on a landing pad, hence his landing pad security moniker. I'm not sure if I got that exactly right but close enough. The other guy is just your standard issue clone from that era.

I had to look up on the googles this guy's name. He's an Imperial Knight from the Star Wars Legacy series. which I really enjoy. But it's hard to keep track of everyone's names. The design of the Imperial Knights is fantastic- part royal guard, part, umm, Jedi. Which is what they are, the Emperor's bodyguards. They have colorless lightsabers, which is maybe the only weak part of their design, but at least it's unique.

So this guy was supposedly a mail away exclusive, though you could get a nearly identical figure right from the first wave of Clone Wars figures that came out. The difference was, this one was clean as opposed to battle damaged. Meh.
I know these clones are thought very highly in the collector community, all super articulated and all that, but I never really got into them too much. Don't like the helmets, just not quite right. OH well. If you put him up next to some glitter you can hardly even tell, right?

I stopped in at one of my Star Wars stores (sadly there is no such thing but I guess that is actually a good thing) and all they really had were some Galactic Heroes. The Asajj/ Dooku pairing was the most interesting of them. And I really like Asajj so I got it. I like her pose, which is good since there's no changing it, and the two lightsabers is something I haven't yet seen in the GH line. The only thing that really sucks is the photo I took.

Once again I must extoll the virtues of the Clone Wars microseries. One of the more striking episodes was when Padme and yoda detour to Illum to see what was up. Turns out some droids were trying to wreck the Jedi caverns where they get their lightsaber crystals! Luckily Padme, Yoda, Luminara Undulie and Barriss Offie take care of them before they can. Snowbunny Padme, as she was called, was one of the design highlights of the series, and really it is just her in her AotC getup with a fur cape. But genius!
Hasbro of course released their outstanding Legacy Wave 2 last year and attempted a version of Snowbunny Padme in realistic rendering. Which was nicely done but not quite as arresting as the stylized cartoon version. Too bad they never made her in the little subline of statue figures. OH well. The main issue is sculpting and painting a decent face on a head that is like a centimeter big. So they did good enough! Her cape is well done.

In the long interval between Empire and Jedi the only Star Wars stories to be had were Marvel Comics, and they did a pretty good job of keeping us entertained. They loved to fake you out with covers implying that Han had been found and battles with Boba Fett were imminent, and to us unsophisticates of the 80s it could only mean that Return of the Jedi was about to be released. Like Fenn Shysha here. I know I am spelling his name wrong but this is how I read it for like ten years. You see that amazing cover and you think oh my god Leia is gonna fight Boba Fett! And then it turns out it was this guy named Fenn who she kisses instead of fights! What? At least there was a cool backstory for the Mandalorians, a name that was new to me at that point. It hinted at the Clone Wars which of course were a huge mystery back then.
Anyways, Fenn here is a repaint of Boba Fett and a pretty good likeness of his comical origins. Him and Tobe Dalla (spelling?) were both put in seperate comic two-packs that was catered to us 80s children. Even if it was a fakeout, I have a high nostalgic love of the original not-Boba Mandalorian.

Right now there is a package making its way towards my house that contains some Star Wars legacy trade paperbacks. When they get here I will be able to find out more about this Lord Maleval guy. Right now all I know is he's a Sith, he's a Quarren, and he is the boss of Joker Squad or at least fights them or something. Because he came in an exclusive boxed set with a bunch of stormtroopers, including a femtrooper. So reallly I should have waited till next week to do this entry but whatever. Darth Squidhead!

Man there's just something about the crazy vibrant colors of the vintage cantina creatures that just brings me back. So orange! So blue! So unaccurate! Is he a scuba diver? Who cares! I got this beautiful near mint Walrus Man off ebay, so far my only auction win. Got two other vintage figures in that deal as well.
Nowadays Hasbro has put out a zillion new versions of the original cantina guys, and tons of ones that Kenner never put out. Haven't been tempted by any of them, so far. Just can't touch the vintage, at least for the cantina.

Still no proper, ordinary Darth Vader figure, but I do have this kickass GH version. Surely the biggest Galactic Hero of them all, even bigger than the wookie. Plus his mask comes off to reveal his molten scarred face. There was another version that had red eyes and no removable helmet but I chose this one.

One of the five clones I have from the Tartakovsky line that came out, I think this one was only available in the States but a Snowtrooper hooked me up. Basically the same sculpt as the regular clone but with a backpack and obviously different helmet. Looks sweet- after a year I still have the same setup on my shelf of these guys. They just look good. Like the Galactic Heroes line, don't do much but look good.

I'm sending these guys to the Outer Rim planet of Quebec today. Trading them away for a Spacetrooper and a Jawa. Darth Bane obviously doesn't actually wear Clone armour but I never really liked the yellowy gold translucent armour plates he came with. Kind of a lame custom. The droid came with Kit Fisto and is actually the only astromech I have with the swiveling antenna in out thing. And now I don't have any! Oh well.

Basically this figure sucks. Even the photo sucks. Biggs is a big dork. At least his helmet can hide his 70s pornstar mustache. And the helmet is removable so you can stick it on another, non-suck figure. He came in an IMperial Pilots Evolutions set, the one with the blue clone gunship pilot and the white ARC-170 clone pilot. I think. Maybe it was the black. Anyways. Biggs, ladies and gentlemen.

I watched the Tartakovsky series again so I decided to feature one of the figures from that line. Dooku this time, since I think this is the only Dooku I will ever get- on purpose anyways. He's a great character onscreen, Christopher Lee is amazing, but as a figure he is a little visually boring. THough this sculpt of him is bang on to the cartoon. Sculpt being the keyword since, like alll the figures in this line, he is not articulated and is meant for display only. Fair enough. The photo is a little subpar but I like the earthier colors, fits Dooku's half-Jedi half-Sith wardrobe.

I'm not even sure what this Clone's real name is- Purple Durple is good enough for me. I got it used from a Snowtrooper. I think he is associated with Mace Windu since all his clones and ships are purple to match his lightsaber. Anyways, I think this guy is sharp. Very similar to a shocktrooper but with a few differences that are plain to see.

I actually had to pull out the little card that comes with figures to remember if this was Stass Allie or Adi Gallia. It's Stass all full of sass! Reading through an old Star Wars Insider I came across an interesting tidbit- the actress brought in to play Adi Gallia fro Sith was not the same as the Episode II actress so they just made her into a new character, Stass Allie, Adi's cousin and former padawan. And they retroactively killed off Adi! According to the card I just pulled out Grievous killed her. And Stass met her end on Saleucami while riding a speeder bike. I wonder if you had a Stass figure next to an Adi figure if you could tell them apart?

Galactic Heroes Gammorean Guard

These little guys aren't much smaller than the original vintage Gamorrean. Almost as articulated, too! Not quite. But the bonus here is they came with a rancor monster that is only too happy to eat them up/ And Luke as well. Great little set.
Also, Rendezvous With Rama is a great book. Its sequels, not so much.

So this guy is a little weird looking, at least for Star Wars. He looks more like he belongs in Lord of the Rings. Although I guess battleaxes are an accepted weapon in the SW galaxy. I looked him up in Wookiepedia to see where he comes from and he is from the Great Sith War of an even longer time ago in that galaxy far, far away. Fair enough, I guess he is the great grandpa of all Mandalorians.
Anyways, as figures go he is nicely done, but he just feels out of place alongside the others. He came in an Evolutions pack with Boba and Jango.

I've said many times how much I loved the microseries, and how happy Legacy Wave 2 made me. And on paper this figure sounds like a great idea, since the visuals of Obi-wan Kenobi wearing clone trooper armour was stunning in the cartoon. In figure form, well, it's best if you leave his helmet on. HIs head looks more like viking warrior in clone armour. Oh well, they tried and I appreciate the effort. It turns out the Clone Wars Kenobi was pretty much perfect anyways.
Judging by how many Kenobis I have they might have used him as the basis for the clone army.

So today was the Edmonton Pop Culture Fair. Last week was Calgary Comic Expo and yesterday was Free Comic Book Day so it's been a good week for geeking it up. Also an expensive week, so I was determined to be restrained today. In Calgary I overheard this little kid and his dad, the kid wanted to go see some Star Trek stuff and the dad was all stern, and he said, "We have a system and we're going to stick to it!" Which is one way to instill a sense of wonder in a child, but anyways. I decided to borrow his discipline just for today (since I was sans child this time) and stick to a system- which was, find this guy Shane's table, buy his book and some vintage figures and go home with a more or less intact bank account. Done and done! Well, I did a little looking, no harm there, but no buying.
I got 8 figures from a kind of a clearance bin, all figures were loose, incomplete and not quite mint, and $5 each, perfect for my budget. And I finally have a Greedo! For some reason Greedo is the guy I most wanted to reaquire after the misguided purge of '92. I think the bright green colors burned themselves on my subconscious.

This guy was a comic con exclusive that I got online from the Star Wars store. I thought he looked pretty cool, familiar but different. All this time I just thought he was a repaint for the heck of it but, as I was reading my X-wing Rogue Squadron Omnibus, I discovered they made an appearance in that series at least.
The speeder bike is pretty similar to the vintage one I had as a kid. Identical, even? Other than the push-button blow-up feature anyways.

Another purchase from the Calgary Expo. A figure from Revenge of the Sith. My brother-in-law thought he was Wookie Warrior #43 since that number is on the card. Turns out the numbers refer to the RotS line of figures. So they didn't make 42 other wookie warriors. Too bad! This guy is huge- just a little smaller that Tarrful, though more posable. The figures from that era (2005 is ancient history in the toy world I guess) weren't supreduper articulated, and they tended to have action features. If you squeeze this guy's legs his arms go up. Thankfully they stopped doing that and added more articulation.
Yup, just bought him cause he was only 6 bucks and I need more Wookies. I still don't have a Chewie!

I had plenty of opportunity to pick up Maris Brood when she came out in that initial Force Unleashed wave but since I had no idea who she was I passed. So I wound up getting her yesterday at the Calgary Comic Expo. She's Shaak Ti's padawan but is teetering on the dark side, so she is the mirror image of the character you play in the game, a Sith apprentice teetering on the light side. I would think Shaak Ti would do a better job but oh well. Seems all the padawans are on the verge of going to the other side alla time. Occupational hazard of training in the Force.
As a figure she is alright, dunno how well she can stand on her own, as with all the female figures, she is super slender and her legs are pretty teeny. I've seen better paint jobs but for a minor character in a video game I can't really complain. I still hope they revisit TFU with some more figures later on.

FX6 isn't the kind of droid you need armies of, but I had to get one since it is such a cool throwback to FX7, a figure I had a lot of fun with in my halcyon years as a cub. FX7 didn't do much but he had all those little arms that came out and I spent an inordinate amount of time with those arms. FX6 has even more arms! And scary, creepy arms too. He's like a horror medical droid, fitting for a bot who worked on Darth Vader. He's a little spikier, a little darker, with those spooky red and green mystery liquids than sterile old FX7. He looks great. For reasons I can't fathom, though, he has three little nodules on his base so he has a hard time standing up straight. Uhh- if there's one thing a figure with a flat base should be able to do, it's stand up straight! Unless they roll . . . let me check. Nope. So not sure why they screwed that up. But otherwise, I dig it.

White Darth Vader

I read about Whitey here on one of the collector sites so I knew he existed but the comic-pack he came in was released before I was a collector so I didn't think I would ever get my hands on one. Luckily a Snowtrooper sold me one for five bucks. I don't have the comic it came with so the context isn't there. From what I recall, it was a what-if story where Leia turned Vader back to good without him having to die so he changed his armour to white and was a Jedi again. But then why is his lightsaber red?
So basically I got it for the bizarre-factor. You have to admit he's funny! Funny in a good way- fun. Fun is fun! They should make some white royal guards for him to march with. Oddly, the only other Vader I currently have is McQuarrie Vader. Maybe I should get a regular Vader one of these days- there's no shortage of them.
Another scenario where this guy would work is Vader enters a tree like the one on Dagobah only this one is a locus of good Force energy and he faces his mirror-self . . . . . never mind.

So Wave 4 finally showed up out here in the wild west. I picked up Faie here and FX6. The rest of them . . . meh. Breha Organa? I am sure she will be warming those pegs soon. Oh well. So waaaay back when Hasbro released a poster showing all the figures in the Legacy Collection, there was one that was hard to make out, was a trooper with some weird misshapen head. I had no idea who it was supposed to be, or even what. Another concept snowtrooper? Some comic book snowtrooper commmander? Turns out Faie comes with this hard plastic, uh, cowl. Not pictured because I think he looks better with just his helmet, which is unique amongst troopers. Almost an AT-AT driver's helmet but not quite. Cool green eyelens.
Turns out on page 198 of Art of RotS there is a picture of Commander Faie pretty much exactly as Hasbro rendered him, complete with white cowl. So this guy could be considered a concept character. He has a lively backstory in the EU as well- video games I think.

I think Revan is another video game character, maybe Knights of the Old Republic. I haven't played hardly any Star Wars games so I don't know much about that realm of the EU. I played Shadows of the Empire! That was fun. I think it would be cool if they did a game with the same sort of concept as SW LEgo but did it with the old vintage Kenner figures. OR maybe a real time strategy game where all the units are the vintage toys. The only thing that would suck about that idea is you wouldn't have Darth Revan here. And I think he should get to play if he wants to.
Anyways, he is a cool figure, great design. Is he like a Mandalorian Sith? Who knows. There were plenty of cool helmets in the Star Wars galaxy so probably not.

I love the Galactic Heroes line, even though they don't really do anything but look good. They're almost like Star Wars smurfs. Here we have Jango Fett. With his two blasters and jetpack he's one of the bigger heroes. And . . . that's about all you can say about him! I don't even recall who he came packaged with- likely Mullet Obi-Wan, currently acting as my stop signal in my garage. Padme does the same duty for my wife's car. So you see, Galactic Heroes have a myriad of uses!

I'm not a completist or a "gotta have everything" guy. Just because it has the Star Wars logo on it doesn't mean I have to buy it. So the Titanium line I pretty much ignore, as well as Mighty Muggs and stuff like that. On the other hand, if something is cool enough I will get it if I want to. Especially if a Snowtrooper is selling them cheap. Hence these AT-RTs. I just like the RTs and these little guys are soo cute! But they are so little they are hard to photograph very well. At least, get three if them in a shot. They're actually just a touch shorter than a normal figure so if I shot just one it would have turned out fine.
Sounds like Hasbro is discontinuing the Titanium line anyways.

R2-D2 it is you it is . . . wait what? Sure it is! It's the McQuarrie concept versions of everyone's favorite droids. R2 looks like he's freaking out because of his flailing appendages but otherwise is very cool. I like his more metal-looking finish. Rolling garbage can for sure. Threepio looks like he wandered off the set of Metropolis. Which was the general idea that McQuarrie wanted to reference in his famous concept painting.
Anyways these guys were packaged together as convention exclusives and probably fairly limited in numbers, but I bought them from a Snowtrooper. And opened them up! These were the droids I was looking for, you know. NOt all of us get to go to fancy conventions whenever they feel like it.

One of the concepts Lucas rejected for RotS was a sort of Predatorish wrist duo lightsaber thing. I was just looking at the concept art last week thinking it would have been cool to see even if Lucas' instincts were right, at least as far as the movie. But anything goes for the Clone Wars series, and lots of artwork originally made for Sith concepts is being used. Another example I can think of is the Twilight.
Anyways, all that is to say it was really cool to see the double wristsaber (it needs a better name!) incorporated in the Clone Wars Plo Koon. I don't recall if he used it in that one episode where he was floating in space with some clones- I don't think so. So doubly cool the doublyblade is realized here.

So Aayla pretty much kicks ass. Too bad about getting shot in the back. Blast that Order 66! Somewhere I have the original Dark Horse comic where she appears. It's cool that Lucas saw that too and decided to put her in the movie. But it would have been even more cooler if she had been given some fight scenes. At least she is more prominent in the Clone Wars CG series. Too bad her voice is the exact same accent every bad actor uses when they have to affect some sort of undefined accent. Oh well. So many regrets!
As far as the figure goes, the sculpt loks great but because her legs are so eensy, she has a hard time standing up on her own. I gave her an extra lightsaber just to increase her coolness factor even that much more.

And what else can you say? He is big for a GH, and he does all the things that other Galactic Heroes do- stand there and be cute! Good enough for me. I hope my daughter thinks they're cool in a couple of years.

McQuarrie Concept Snowtrooper

The last couple of weeks I've been reading my Art of Star Wars books. I love concept art. It's so neat to see what directions were being explored and how the final product differed from the idea. Here we have a McQuarrie concept for the Snowtroopers. I've been wanting to get ahold of a couple of these for a while now and finally completed a deal with a Snowtrooper, appropriately enough.
As far as the figure itself goes, I wonder if Hasbro figured the majority of them would be staying in their cards. Because it's a great looking figure it just can't stand up very well! A perennial problem with snowtroopers/marines. Must be their skirts. Although these guys don't have skirts. Oh well. Just gotta find some more stands I guess.

Senate Guard

Like all the guards, their main function in the movie is set dressing. Yoda takes out a few red guards and that's all the action they see. It would have been cool to have a small squad of these blue guys holding out against Anakin and his clones as he goes to the Jedi Temple to kill some younglings.
This particular guy, I think his technical name is Blue Senate Guard or perhaps Senate Guard (Blue), is I think a little different from the first ones we see at the end of Episode I, if I recall those ones had open face guards. This guy has the classic black visor. So maybe Episode II, though I don't recall when. Oh well. Main point is, it's a fine looking figure, as are all the guards, blue, red or shadow.

I guess this is Kit Fisto's astromech (at least he came with Kit Fisto in a Droid Factory 2 pack). As such you would expect it to be submersible. Well, why not? If they can fly I am sure they can zoom around like a little submarine! Too bad they never put that in that episode of the microseries. Which was the best episode ever btw. It would not have been improved by adding a little astromech to it, come to think of it.
The best thing about this guy is the little antenna that comes in and out when you rotate his head. His coloring seems kind of strange for Star Wars but whatever. Yesterday I saw a puke green version of my car so these things happen.

Leave it to Genndy Tartakovsky's studio to finally get a ship right. For the most part the ships in the prequel trilogy lacked that cool factor. Naboo starfighters? No thanks. Hard to picture one of those shiny yellow things strafing a Death Star. BUt the Torrent is perfect Star Wars. Elements of Imperial Shuttles as well as maybe the B-Wing with all those movable parts. S-foils I imagine they're called. I'm glad this ship shows up in the CG series, though I'd love to see it more often.
But wait- I have my very own V-19 to look at anytime I want! And even better, my employer bought it for me! Safety points get turned into wal-mart gift cards get turned into Star Wars vehicles, the first I've bought in the modern era. Other than a black scout bike. Too bad there's no $20 AT-TEs here like there are in Ontario.

I fall squarely in the camp of people who think Snips is a great character. The other camp lumps her in with Jarjar. The other camp are full of people who hate everything about Star Wars except the idea of Star Wars (See that classic essay on the subject). But not me, I just love Star Wars and I love Star Wars figures. The overgrown manchild that I am.
Anwyays lets talk about the Tortugachild here in question. Anakin's padawan. Some people think this is a ridiculous idea since he plainly had no padawan in RotS. Obviously, she met an untimely and undoubtedly tragic demise which I hope the Clone Wars series will address with appropriate gravity. Because as we get to know her we admire her spunk, her courage and her ability with a lightsaber, and it will be wrenching to watch her die.
BUt before that happens we can enjoy her action figure from the Clone Wars line, which is pretty decent. Already tiny, some complain that she is too big to be truly to scale, and a Snowtrooper did a nice job of customizing her. As for me I am happy as she is. She has a hard time standing unassisted but oh well. At least she came with a little Huttling, truly the accessory that never stops giving.

Taking pictures of all black figures is a little tricky- I will do it again better when I get a chance. Anyways I heard shadowtroopers really don't like getting their photo taken- kinda ruins their blackops stealthy cred. They're sort of like ninjas, the stormtrooper equivalent of ninjas. You don't ever see shadowtroopers sent to Tattooine to look for no droids, that's for sure. Way too ninja for that.
So yeah, a black stormtrooper. Cool. I got it and a couple of other figs (Utapau shadow and Special Ops Clone) in a trade with a snowtrooper for a Captain Rex and McQuarrie Rebel Soldier. Not a bad deal for either of us I'd say.

Another great figure from my favorite wave, Saesee Tiin all done up in space trooper armour. Remember when he led a bunch of clones out into space and they boarded that Droid ship and kicked ass? That's the general idea here and they did a fine job. Removable helmet so you can get his horned head in full effect if you want. But his helmet looks great.
I convinced a small child that he had to buy this figure once and his mom bought it for him. Just doing the good deeds.

ARC troopers come in all sorts of colors, including black. But I think this one that I bought today (the first figure I've gotten this year) is my favorite. For now at least. Yellow isn't my favorite color or even top five but yellow looks sharp on Clones. See I got that whole yellow squad going. Not sure which Jedi the yellows were associated with. Maybe Yoda.
Apparently the ARCs were trained by Jango Fett. Which would make him an employee of the Republic so I still dunno why he was fighting for the Seperatists. Maybe they should just remake AotC and do it right.

It's been a while I know. Daughter born and all that. But actually I still have time, just all camera resources are dedicated to her right now! But I took a quick shot of Jango and sons.
This Jango is from the Fett Evolutions set, the one with that weird battle-ax wielding Mandalore guy. I guess Gamorrean Guards have the battle-axes so it fits. Anyways, this is not about him.
This is about Jango. His helmet looks great, and his jetpack is fine too, different from Boba's. Not sure about his shirt, the color seems a little off. The other Jango I have is stuck in a pose, so it's nice to have a more posable Jango. They should also make a head-comes-off Jango. Poor guy. I never really understood why he was fighting on Dooku's side. Wasn't he hired, at least ostensibly, by the Republic? Oh well. At least he got to do more than Boba.

After Darth Vader dismissed the bounty hunters from his star destroyer, they all went off in different directions. Zuckuss decided to go to the quarry's last known location- Hoth. Too bad for him Boba Fett already had Solo in carbonite. Maybe a wampa ate him!
And are Zuckuss and Plo Koon the same species, and Zuckuss is like a beer-drinking redneck member? Who knows. All I know is that in Galactic Heroes from Zuckuss doesn't suckuss.

I noticed while watching Empire that these guys are never actually fully in the picture- just like the side of their helmets more or less. But I guess the helmets are just repainted versions of the TIE fighter pilot's helmet.
Anyways, the observant picture looker will notice that these two figures are different. The one on the right is an older version, though not the vintage one. Power of the Force? Pot Jedi? I don't really know, got them from a Snowtrooper. The one on the left is OTC and has not-stock leg paddy things. No big deal. Still looks better than Mr Righty there. Mr Righty has been banished to the babie's toy box. (s)he can drool on him when (s)he is old enough to not choke on it.

One thing I learned as a Canadian collector is it doesn't really pay to buy from the Starwars.com shop. Shipping and duties pretty much kicks you in the kybutt. Although I don't know how else I would have gotten concept Grivous and shadow biker scout. I though this Yoda and kybuck would be hard to find too so I put them in the order, too. Turns out he isn't that hard to get. And would have been a way better deal to just get here, since it is priced as a regular figure.
And a fine figure it is, too. Yoda riding his kybuck. Which is a mount that appeared in the Clone Wars microseries and made for some amazing visuals. As such he would have fit in with Legacy Wave 2 but is actually from the Anniversary Collection (TAC). The kybuck is quite beautifully done, with the minor complaint that his feet are really only able to stand in one position. Otherwise he falls and crushes clones left and right.

Who would win in a fight between Bossk and Boba Fett? You'd think Fett, right? I agree. But Bossk is still a pretty cool bounty hunter. He even got a line in Empire Strikes back, if you count growling as a line. Did Zuckuss get a line? 4-LOM? Exactly.
This is one of the three vintage figures I kept. There was some sort of mystic connection between him and my Snaggletooth, though I forget what, other than maybe a physical resemblance. I seem to remember that Bossk occasionally landed on his feet after getting shot and spun around by our laser elastics. Could Boba do that?

I'm not even sure how many of these guys I have- quite a few though not more than 10 I think. You need a bunch of these guys, they were the original clones. Who themselves were based on the original Jango Fett. Who was based on Boba Fett. See? You need them.

So the Mon Calamari and the Quarren are from the same planet and they don't get along too well. The Quarren have hordes of battle droids and other technological wonders to bully around with but the Mon Calamari have Kitt Fisto and the Scuba Clones on their side! Plus giant sea lizard mounts. Which weren't included with the figure but since it came with a million other little trinkets that's alright. Even if said trinkets don't stay on too well- not shown is their water horns.
So I love these guys and all the guys from this wave but ten times over on the three figures based on this one episode of the Tartakovsky series, my favorite one. Must be popular with the folks at Hasbro too. I managed to restrain myself and only buy two of them and two quarren but if they go on clearance it's army-building time.

The first I ever heard of these guys was in a comic pack I picked up at a TRU. I was all excited about a new clone sculpt. Turns out it is not new at all but a rerelease- the original was a battlepack I think. Which is fine since as new sculpts go it is actually not exceptional- not that much articulation. He has trouble even standing unaided. he comic it came with just showed a bunch of these commandoes fighting and then Yoda says something prescient at the end about clones turning on them just to follow orders. But I think they originally come from some Karen Traviss books, which I'd actually like to read. They're nulls trained by a mandalorian? That might be from a webcomic. Obviously I don't know much about them. BUt I have another like him, more colorful, named Scorch.

I was surprised to find out that Shaak Ti hardly even appears in the prequel trilogy at all. Shaaking! A few background scenes, like two, in AotC and then not even in Sith at all. Yeah there was the deleted scene where Grievous stabs her in the back but that hardly counts. She makes more of an appearance in Force Unleashed but also not much better since she meets her doom. Which is a shame because she is a striking-looking Jedi. Ahsoka carries the togruta torch for her now.
This is the only figure I have of her, thus far. Galactic Heroes yo! Glad they made her, even if she only got maybe 6 seconds of screen time.

It's hard to imagine a bounty hunter with C-3PO's awkward gait. But at least 4-LOM looks tougher than 3P0. And he's got a waaaay bigger blaster.
As figures go, Lommy there is pretty decent. Got your basic protocol droid body with the waist swivel thing, which is fine. And the cool bug head looks great, as does the paint app. But all he did was stand there in Empire Strikes Back- I guess the same could be said about Bossk and the others. At least you can imagine Bossk chasing down an escaped convict. Oh well. I'm sure 4-LOM captured some bounties in his day. Maybe he does more of an undercover thing.

Over the holidays we watched Revenge of the Sith and I was surprised to see several shots of these guys, though only brief glimpses. For some reason, Pawlus I think, I thought these weren't in the movie. But they were, helping Obi-Wan there on Utapau. And then gunning for him. Silly clones.
Anyways, I dig these guys, with their cool helmets. I'd definitely get repaints in different colors.

This figure is getting some pretty poor reviews over on Snowtroopers. Soft plastic, doesn't grip the lightsabers very well, can't stand up. All pretty damning. But because of all the sales it was almost impossible to not get him for under 5 bucks what can you expect? This is what I like about him- interchangeable arms, so you can have 2-handed blaster-wielding Grievy or four-armed lightsaber-toting Grievy. Also I think the sculpt is pretty cool, even better than the regular realistic figure. Better legs, with nice big claws.

Too bad this guy doesn't transform into a roller droid. But otherwise it looks just fine. It has slots for laser missile firing action, but the laser missiles always detract from the realism of a figure so no thanks.

I always thought it was silly that there could only be two Sith. A master, and an apprentice. So when the apprentice got really good at being bad it could kill the master and start the cycle anew. So aside from being really evil they are also really dumb. Fortunately the writers of Star Wars Legacy apparently feel the same way and that comic is crawling with Sith, many of which have red skin and black tattoos a la Darth Maul. And if they are females, hardly any clothes. Comics is a visual medium after all and who am i to complain? Thus, Darth Talon. Basically Aayla Secura's evil twin. Born like 300 years apart. So they don't really have the same birthday.
As far as the character herself, she is Darth Krayt's chosen assassin and is pretty mean. I have the first couple of issues of Legacy but that's about all I know. Anyways, cool figure.

Another of the stylized figures from the microseries line. Not too much going on here, just the ultimate Jedi Master brandishing his lightsaber at you like he means it. Poke you, I will, if outta my way you do not get.
I think this is my favorite Yoda that I have- the actual 3.75 inchers are a little too small really. And this one has that look I love. Like the rest in this line, more of a statue than action figure. Though I do miss my original vintage figure with that orange snake that went around his neck.

So here are a bunch of guys that are permanently stuck in a certain pose. Handy for dioramas and such, and for ambushing hapless battle droids. Because as if two troopers aren't enough look up! Oh no! Two more cloneys ready to do some sniping!

Anyways, I got these guys from a Snowtrooper and they were cheap- like 2 bucks each so can't complain about that. I didn't think they were all worth their own entry, and for that matter neither is a battle droid so here you go all of them at once!

Obi-Wan Kenobi

I think I have almost as many Kenobis as Grievouses. Fitting, actually. All the versions can fight each other! This one here may be the best. There is a Legacy Wave 2 with the armor that is pretty great based on the microseries but this one is just a fine sculpt- almost dead on to the CG Clone Wars Obi.
I wonder what a Darth Maul in the CG style would look like? Maybe a flashback episode or something and Hasbro will have an excuse to crank one out!

What does BARC stand for? I don't really know, maybe Biker Advanced Recon or something. Because apparently they have speeder bikes and that is why they come with ridiculously large guns (not shown but even bigger than the ones that are shown). One of these guys came with the little blue Jedi n the Order 66 two-pack. And the other was Saga Legends, or reruns, not that I am complaining.
Since they don't have their bikes I set them to guarding some Lord of the Rings books for me. So far no one has stolen them. Good job little barcies!

It's amazing how striking this figure is and really it's just an inverted Royal Guard. Black becomes red and red becomes black. But the Royal Guard design has always retained its intrinsic perfectness even after 25 years. Like the other Force Unleashed characters, it is not quit accurate to the game. In the game they are more of a greyish color and don't have robes. Just like the cardback, actually. But I am not complaining. I want the robes to match the red guards. And Hasbro can always release a version sans robes and I am sure I would get one. Or two.

This is pretty much a perfect figure- the only complaint I have is you can't quite pose him in the classic "Urrrk urrrk urrrk" pose. Isn't that the whole point of a Tusken Raider? Ah well. I sort of lucked out when I got this guy- it was at the Zellers I go to fairly regularly and it had a special offer sticker on it from 2006- you could get a Stormtrooper with a George Lucas head apparently if you wanted. Uh, yeah. Anyways maybe it was tucked away in the warehouse and they brought it out. Part of the Vintage Original Trilogy Collection that came out a couple of years ago, it was packaged in a retro old-school card.
Pawlus tells us it is the best sandperson figure ever, basically. Other than the actual vintage one. Wish I still had it.

McQuarrie Stormtroopers

Turns out there were two versions of this Concept Art trooper, and I got them both from Snowtroopers. The older, from 2004, is clearly the inferior of the two. Less detailing, and his plastic is yellowing. The TAC version is way better, which is why the other troopers are cheering for him to kick stormy butt.
Dark Horse should do a comic series using all concept art. That would be cool! As cool as this McStormtrooper. AKA Darth Vader's riot police.

The one and only figure I got when Episode I came out was Darth Maul. I took that little guy to China and New York and all sorts of places. But New York was his undoing as he never came home with me. I think Jon still has him but I don't know. So anyways this quasi-concept art Maul was a good replacement. Quasi because this version of him appeared in the four issue Darth Maul series which I posed him in front of. All those extra tattoos give him an even more distinctive look. And since he was criminally underused you gotta jump on the chance to release new versions of him that weren't in the movie. I just got a more normal version of him (in which he wears a shirt) and I hope to rip his legs off and replace them with tri-droid legs or somesuch so as to customize a Maul-borg, also based on concept art, straight from LucasFilm as far as I know. Anyways that is neither here nor there since I haven't done it yet. What matters is this Maul is pretty good, maybe not as much articulation as there could be. But he came in a Sith Evolutions 3-pack with Darth Bane (pthhhpp!) and Darth Malak?? Something like that.

How many Grievi do I own? Many- 6 so far if you count the kinda lame pre-cyborg one they did. But this was the first, one of the stylized figures they put out in the style of the Tartakovsky microseries. Not much in the way of articulation, it is more of a statue. His head pops off though, a fact that I had Aayla Secura take advantage of in a silly little photo story I did once. This photo comes from an even sillier story which involves many Grievouses and popsicles.
Anyways. He only has two arms in evidence but remember, he has four arms at his disposal, each with a lightsaber for chopping you into many itty bits. So watch out.

Back when I was a kid I used to freeze my Star Wars figures in the little plastic bubble that attached to the cards they came in. It was fun because they would come out of the freezer in a state of perfect hibernation, and for the next couple of hours you could pretend that your figure is on his way to Jabba the Hutt, all frozen in carbonite. The downside was, the process turned their arms and legs all loosey goosey. So I stopped doing it.
Jodo Kast here, one of only three figures I wanted to get from Legacy Wave 3, apparently spent some time in carbonite. His arms and head are supa loose! Sucks! He was already borderline lame to begin with- a yellow Mandalorian? Most of Wave 3 is even lamer- holographic Dooku? Yaddle and Paddle? Please. But I am a sucker for Mandalorians even if they are yellow. But not if they are also loosey goosey! And it turns out, according to his bio, he's not even a real Mandalorian- he is an impostor of Boba Fett who decides to track him down and give him a lesson. Maybe Boba snapped his shoulders and neck! That would make more sense . . .

Gunship Pilots

These guys made their first appearance in Attack of the Clones and were pretty much the only ones with a different helmet design (other than stripes of color) than the main clone troopers had in that movie. Makes sense since they were pilots not infantry. And only the yellow version was in the movie. The blue guy is just a fun paint app that as far as I know is unique to the figure. Which came from the Imperial Pilots Evolutions three-pack. Come to think of it, the yellow guy came from an Evolutions pack too, kind of- at least his helmet did. The figure is just a spare clone I had that I swapped the helmet out since the 3-pack had the helmet as an extra. Which is why he is carrying an infantry rifle and is all mud-spattered, which is something most gunship pilots probably don't ever deal with.
So yeah- yellow guy is not even really a real Hasbro-released figure, and blue guy exists only because of Hasbro. A good pair!
Only complaint- bluey's paint is quite sloppy. Oh well you can say they painted their own helmets. My hardhat at work has been extensively customized by me and it is not so pretty either.

I'm starting to acquire a whole mess of droids, and I have no idea what their names are. I had to look it up for this guy here- R7-T1. He's my favorite astromech so far, just because he's so bright and vibrant. Kind of like a concept R2-D2 or maybe when you have a biopic of people you know and they choose actors who are close but not quite bang on, that's what R7 is. "Now starring in A Droid's Life, R7-T1 as R2-D2!"
He came in little bits packed in with the Legacy Wave 2 figures so I have a whole one and a few spare parts.

In Nelson, New Zealand there's this crazy little institute called World of Wearable Art and Classic Cars Museum. All the guidebooks said it was a must but I was skeptical- cars and clothes?? Seemed a bizarre combo. But the place was amazing, and it was the clothes, or wearable art, that stood out more even than the beautiful cars they had.
Anyways this figure always reminds me of that. Surely it has the nicest outfit of any action figure ever! She's quite stunning in that sense, and still nicely articulated. She was part of an Order 66 two-pack that came out just as I got serious about collecting. I forget which clone came with her, oh here it is- the AT-RT driver.

Before RotS came out my wife and I took a trip to the Rockies and picked up some new Star Wars figures to go along on our hike. We named this guy Rasta Chewie. In the movie he was the wookie general or chief or something. Him and real Chewie were very sad when Yoda had to leave.

NOt much to say really- the one Ventress figure I have is from the animated-style line they released a few years ago with the Microseries- thus they are heavily stylized and more statues than figures. But very sweet statues as far as I'm concerned. I got the Grievous one when they came out and got the rest of them from some Snowtroopers. I like Ventress a lot but one issue she has is her one lightsaber always falls out of her hand. Ah well.

Animated Debut Boba Fett

Turns out the Star Wars Holiday Special just turned 30 so I have to feature the only good thing to come out of that piece of dreck- Lumpy! No wait, the animated debut of the Galaxy's Kickingass Bounty Hunter. How well I remember that brief cartoon. Actually, I remember it only vaguely but I do remember it. Luckily there's YouTube to aid our memories.
As far as the figure goes, it looks great. He can stand with all the other Mandalorians and pretend he's not from ToonTown. I got him the same day as Concept Art Boba Fett and Concept Art Darth Vader, all from the same wave I assume.

Jumptrooper

Imperial Jumptrooper

Hasbro released an entire wave devoted to The Force Unleashed, but prior to the game's release, so no one knew who Maris Brood or Rahm Kota were. But three figures in the line really stood out- the Jumptrooper, the EVO trooper and the Shadow Guard. I finally tracked down all three, but it took a while and I've only ever seen one of each. Hopefully they will be rereleased later.
I'm a sucker for troopers of any kind, and this guy with his modified stormtrooper look makes me all giddy. I'm not sure if they look quite that way in the game but that's fine- Hasbro can always make more Unleashed troopers as far as I'm concerned.

Hammerheads

Back in 1993 I foolishly sold my entire collection of vintage figures and vehicles for sixty bucks. D'oh! But I kept three- the Hammerhead shown here as well as Bossk and Snaggletooth. For being over 30 years old he's in pretty good shape- a little loosey goosey maybe but his four-toed splayed feet let him stand up fine.
His partner there is Roron Corobb, the Ithorian Jedi from the Clone Wars Microseries. He tried unsuccessfully to rescue Palpatine from General Grievous. Maybe that's why he looks so mad.

Quad Gunners

Quad Gunners
The Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars series is one of my favorite things about the whole Star Wars universe. Hasbro has released a number of figures based on that series, and recently an entire wave of Legacy figures. I love them all. These Quad Gunners are great- but a bit of a cheat in that they aren't very close to how they appeared in the cartoon. There they were just regular ARC clones, and their guns were a little smaller.
Minor details. I actually like this version better as it sets them apart from other ARC troopers. Their helmets are slightly redone AT-RT drivers' helmets. So far I have three!
*Turns out they are exactly as seen in the cartoon- gotta go to chapter 21 not 3 which is where I was looking.

Shocktroopers
This guy here was my favorite Clone until the Legacy Wave 2s. I love the red- hence the Clonie Bear's colors. I got this one at Comic King at an inflated price- 12 bucks I think, and then two others off of a Snowtrooper (with Quick Draw Action as I just discovered from the FotD Blog entry) for 5 bucks each. The non-quickdraw is a newer release- not sure what wave or anything but it had the Captain Rex offer so whenever that was. The quick draw ones have a weird little shoulder pad that comes off.
Their guns are different too, I might have switched the older ones around, the new one's gun is tied to his hands.

Concept Art Boba Fett

This figure is what sucked me back into collecting Star Wars figures- I bought one or two for each prequel that came out but that was it. Then I saw this guy and that was it for me. Oh well, it's a better hobby than smoking. Cheaper, too.
This figure is based on Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for Boba Fett. I kinda wish they went with this version in the movie- but maybe the color scheme was too close to stormtroopers, I don't know. There was also an "Animated Debut Boba Fett" figure that I got at the same time- but that is an entry for another day.
I got two of these guys because it came with two helmets- the other one has some sort of robotic breather and looks pretty cool too.
And for some reason his belly opens and there's a gun in there.

Galactic Heroes Royal Guard

I really dig the Galactic Heroes line, even if Adam Pawlus would say they are not action figures so much as statues. They're really cool statues! And good for younger kids, too. Not really too much else to say about him- I forget who he came packed with, maybe an Imperial Engineer. I took this photo as a response to this drawing by Zimmy. How cool would a Shadow Guard repaint be?

More or less the same figures, the one on the left was found at walmart for $4.94 while the one on the right I got from a snowtrooper- can't remember who or for how much. Anyways the used one has dirty legs, a removable helmet and very slightly yellowing plastic. His FotD entry is here.
